Method Acting Workshop with Robert Castle
This was a unique opportunity to take a masterclass in Method Acting.
The workshop ran from 3rd to 14th August 2009
Robert studied with Lee Strasberg and Peggy Feury. He has guest starred on dozens of feature films, TV shows and scores of professional plays in New York and Los Angeles working with such luminaries as two time Oscar winner Sean Penn, Jeff Goldblum, Michelle Pfeiffer, two time Oscar winner Jane Fonda and George Segal. For the past ten years, Robert has been the most sought after instructor at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute, New York. He has taught acting, screen-writing and video production at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) and New York University (NYU).
Throughout the two-week training, Robert delves into the various myths about the Method and he uses his meticulous training style to layer each actor’s prior training onto the Method technique. The process leads to the actor making a total connection to the character, the circumstances and the dilemma to the point where ego and self-consciousness evaporate.
During the workshop, the actor is engrossed in an intense training environment for seven hours a day, over the course of two consecutive weeks (Monday through Friday). Robert will also engage the actors in a very detailed relaxation technique. This technique strengthens the actor’s ability to achieve creative states of being: mentally, physically and emotionally that can be applied in different ways to both film and stage acting.
Vanessa M Fahy and Jane E Walsh are former full time students of Robert Castle and professional actors, having studied under his tutorship at both Lee Strasberg, NY and ITNY. Both Vanessa and Jane are co-ordinating the Dublin workshop and they would encourage any questions that potential participants may have regarding any aspect of the workshop. Tony Gregory RIP
The
New Theatre would like to express their sadness on Tony Gregory's
passing. He was a great supporter of The New Theatre and our first
patron. Director Anthony Fox approached him just after he set up
the theatre in 1997 and asked him to support an application for
funding to The Arts Council. Thanks to Tony's support the bid was
successful.

July 2008
The New Theatre: Dublin, presented the UK Premiere of The Tailor and Ansty at the beautiful Old Red Lion Theatre: Islington for 4 weeks during July 2008.
The production was very well recieved by everyone who attended, and of course, in particular by the Irish ex-pat community.
The English critics were mistified as the to the furore caused by
the baning of Eric Cross's book in 1943, and how anyone should take
objection to its publication or its contents, when all one has to do is transfer one's mind and think back
to those years.
Culture Ireland were a most generous sponsor of our visit, which
resulted in a stress free financial climate. The work Culture Ireland
carry out is vital to the Irish Arts being recognised abroad.
The acting and direction of Nuala Hayes as Ansty and the performances of Ronan Wilmot as The Tailor were highly praised.
Our full team consisted of Mannix McPhillips - Lighting Designer, Fiona Hurley - Stage Director and Lisa Krugel - Stage Manager.
Helen Devine, Artistic Director of The Old Red Lion, was a hugely supportive spirit throughout our four-week visit.
